Acela Must Mean Slow in PigLatin
If I were in charge of Amtrak, I'd be very embarrassed right now - not that the Acela trains are sidelined for repairs, but that the old Metroliners turn out to be just as fast. I guess all that Acela high-speed promotion was just hype.
UPDATE: On the other hand, a little slow is OK with me.

Amtrak, and everyone else in the railroad business, knew that the Acela train would be only marginally faster than Metroliner, because unless and until the track bed is improved, speed is not an option.
Everyone knew it.
But track bed repairs are not as SEXY as a cool new bullet train, and Amtrak was looking for something SEXY to burnish its stodgy reputation.
Wrong.
Put those trains on the auction block, NRPC, it's time to retire.

My inside poop scoop from a family member who works for the big choo choo company that couldn't is a manufacturer defect coupled with a poor vendor relationship and a miniscule back stock of the part in question is causing this debaucle. I haven't had a chance to catch up with him on the Metroliner, but I'll inquire.
