Southie Bigotry - Celebrated Right Out in the Open
In South Boston, a collection of bigots -including a local politician- gathers annually to commemorate their successful fight against gay people. I don't know how I feel about the constitutional issue because I haven't studied it, but their "fight" was not about the constitution; it was about gays. They hate gays, and they're proud of it. It is disgraceful that Justice Nolan and Councilor Kelly joined in this celebration of bias. By the way, South Boston sucks, and I don't know why anyone would want to live or march among those insular inbreds anyway.

I have to say that celebrating the decision all these years later is stupid. I am a gay man from New York and also Irish American so I have strong opinions on this issue.
A surprise to many will be the fact that I support the ruling by the courts, that the organizers of the parade can keep ILGO out.
I know that doesn't sound like a gay man's opinion, but it is. The constitution gives us the right to free assembly and does not say that anyone must be allowed to join said assembly.
I'm gay and I'm Irish, that means that I have two parades every year, the St Patricks Day parade and the Gay Pride parade. ILGO didn't need to pick this fight in the first place. I thought it was silly then and still do. You can be proud of being Irish and Gay, but that doesn't mean you have to march in a parade where they don't want you. Inclusion is something that will come in time, not with court force.
Now I wonder how the South Boston Irish community would feel if it had been the other way around?
Isn't their ignorant celebration much like the Orangemen of Derry marching by the Catholic areas every year taunting the minority community? This just makes them look like a bunch of fools, insecure fools at that. Haven't they ever heard of winning with dignity?
They won, get over it and move on. That goes for everyone. By the way, love your blog, doing a great job.
