There's a nice piece of reporting in today's Boston Herald, by Laura Crimaldi and O'Ryan Johnson, following up on the death of a junkie in the Public Garden caught on film by Herald photographer John Wilcox (my earlier posts here and here). I congratulate the Herald on its follow-up and I hope they stay on top of the story. Our crown jewel public parks should be for children, and families, and tourists, and concerts, and plays, and summer fun, and winter sledding. Not for junkies, their scumbag dealers, or the piss-covered homeless addicts whose presence encourages the narcotics trade.
I'll be calling the Mayor's office this morning to express my concerns, and I hope you'll do the same. You can reach Mayor Menino's Office of Constituent Services at 617-635-4500 or use this handy web form. Mayor Menino is a hands-on guy who truly seems to care about making Boston a better city for everyone. I'm sure he'll respond to this problem.
