Red Light Cameras In Boston? Stop the Insanity!

TrafficcamSome politicians are hoping to bring red-light traffic cameras to Boston.  This is a bad idea that will not save lives or increase public safety in any way.  In fact, as has been proven by their installation in other cities, they can increase the traffic death rate.  All they do is generate revenue for the private firms that run them and the pols who put them in.  Anyone who reads this blog knows how much I hate to agree with the police union president, Thomas Nee, but he's right, as quoted in the Boston Globe:

''This is more about revenues than it is about traffic enforcement."

They are installing one in Swampscott. Apparently one of the highest tax rates in all of MA isn't enough to support bloated Swampscotts police and teachers union.

They use those in Germany and man, I can't tell you how many tickets I have gotten by running a clearly orange light. How about putting some money towards fixing the damn potholes instead? Or maybe we're all paying too much excise tax and they need to find new things to spend the money on.
