Beater of The Week, IX

This weekly beater comes from Montreal, as I just did. Mid-80's Mercedes wagon in a fringe neighborhood that looks to be going upscale, if the economy doesn't turn. Those MB wagons hang on for a long time if reasonably maintained. At least, that's how it always was. Let's hope it continues for the later models, he said self-interestedly. Click for larger, as always.

Looks to be in pretty good shape (if a little dirty -- but you should see my car) for a beater, at least by my standards.
CP, what's your distinction between a "beater" and a "workhorse"?

Off the top of my head, maybe a workhorse is used by a tradesman to do a job, whereas a beater is used for transportation. To my mind, the essence of beaterdom is daily use combined with owner's apathy toward physical condition.

Makes sense. And as I examine your pics a ittle closer, I see cause to increase the beater quotient that I didn't notice before.

Luke, I see what you mean about the photos. The damage is subtle, but that thing is rusting in half from the bottom. It was obvious in person, but the photos don't do show it as much unless you look closely. CP
