Dobson on the Media: They're Biased In Favor of Equal Rights, Fairness, and Liberty
James Dobson, the deranged theocrat who runs Focus on the Family (focus on Jesus, and you'll get closer to the true purpose of the group), on CNN.com accuses the media of a bias in favor of gay marriage. Shocking. They're probably also in favor of voting rights for women and of allowing blacks to own property.
Dobson's disturbed little worldview is given voice in a narrow aspect here, where he distorts some facts, makes others up, and urges bigotry and hatred upon us. From the real Lawrence v. Texas:
[The Founders] knew times can blind us to certain truths and later generations can see that laws once thought necessary and proper in fact serve only to oppress. As the Constitution endures, persons in every generation can invoke its principles in their own search for greater freedom.
Not lesser freedom. Greater. Borrow a page from the theocrats. Let CNN.com know what you think of Dobson's bigotry.

Great post.
This about sums up my feelings:

I think you're laying it (demagoguery) on a bit thick here.
What does the Bible say about homosexuality? It calls it an abomination. Not a valid life-style choice deserving of legal protection.
Any religious person who takes the bible seriously, be they a Christian, Jew, or Muslim has to make a choice: do you re-interpret away the obvious meaning, or stick to the "word of God" as written?
If you enshrine gay marriage as a normal right, you are discarding one of the cornerstones of our culture. I don't think you really want to live in a completely secular U.S.
Think about how things are for Jews in France and Germany.
If you don't like "traditional" Christianity, that's fine, but that's who your beef is really with, not just with Dobson.

TheAutoProphet: Any religious person has another choice if they believe the Bible is the word of God - realize that the God they follow is a bigot and a child murderer and lots of other really bad things and may not be worth worshiping in the first place.

That's great, but since not everyone follows the teachings of the Bible (and nobody follows all of them), it's not valid to use it to form laws of a nation with a First Amendment.
I'd go after Red Lobster if I were you; the Bible's just as hard on shellfish as it is on gay marriage, if not more.

What Michael said. Also, just as many biblical scholars will tell you that the bible doesn't say a thing about committed consentual same-sex relationships. And that if you're going to interpret it literally, it does condemn things like shellfish, clothing made of more than one type of fiber, women being outside of huts during their periods, etc. So who's the hypocrite?
