I heard from a credible source that Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz was hospitalized last weekend, during the disastrous Yankees series. I was told he was at Mass General for a heart issue, possibly an abnormal heart rate. I'm told the visit was ultra hush-hush and that some MGH employees were fired on the spot for intruding on Ortiz's privacy by asking for an autograph while he convalesced in the high-priced Phillips House wing.
UPDATE: I am certain it's true, because Ortiz confirmed it to the MSM according to an article in the Boston Herald by sportswriter Tony Massarotti, who was big enough to credit "the Internet" with breaking the story.
Look, the Herald didn't have to credit anyone, because they got Ortiz to confirm the visit. Still, it would have been nice to see "Carpundit"in the MSM. My thanks to Jay Fitzgerald and Adam Gaffin for publicizing my scoop.

Like we didn't see this coming?
Overweight baseball players are bound to have their health catch up with them and it did for David Ortiz.
Ortiz standing 6'4 and weighing 230lbs. (according to espn's player profile)
Highly unbelievable.
I do wish him the best of luck but...drinking coffee on the way to the hospital? C'mon Big Papi, your not exactly helping here! Your going to the hospital for heart irregularities stop throwing the log into the fire sir!
Did some research and check this Mr. Ortiz :
Caffeine stimulates the central nervous system by blocking adenosine, a neurotransmitter that normally causes a calming effect in the body. The resulting neural stimulation due to this blockage causes the adrenal glands to release adrenaline, the "fight or flight" hormone. Your heart rate increases, your pupils dilate, your muscles tighten up, and glucose is released into your blood stream for extra energy. Voila… you now have the caffeine buzz.
Whoops! I'm well aware that he knows this and I'm hoping it's not just professional ignorance.

If only the 350 cities and towns could find the same political will. We can break the back of the police unions here, if people don't chicken out.
