Moving City Hall - What's In It For the Mayor?

I agree that City Hall Plaza is disgusting - barren, ugly, waste-strewn and derelict-full.  The City Hall itself is a Brutal monstrosity.  (How could anyone ever have thought that attractive?)  But the Mayor's plan makes no sense.  Moving City Hall out of downtown, off to the side, might make sense if there were good public transportation.  But there isn't.  Today's City Hall sits at the intersection of several transit lines, so it's easily accessible by all the city's residents.  I cannot understand why a mayor of the people like Mumbles Menino would want to move his operation away from the people.

Unless maybe there's some money involved.  You don't think he could be setting himself up for a retirement job with the developers, do you?  You don't think the corrupt Boston Redevelopment Authority will have a hand in this somewhere?  Nah.  Not in Boston.
