So My Six-Year-Old Has Been Bugging Me For An iPod

Ipod_1My older boy wants an iPod in the worst way.  He's been addicted to my iTunes for about a year now, typically cranking the volume to the limit of my Harman/Kardon Soundsticks and playing a single song over and over and over.  It wasn't so bad when he was addicted to American Pie, because the song is nearly ten minutes long and he'd play it two or three times and then move on.  But then he discovered the Ramones.

Blitzkrieg Bop at maximum volume ten times in a row can get to you.  (Plus, he always leaves the Mac volume cranked, so when I come back to the computer a system beep stops my heart for a second.)  Tired of all that, I started lending him my iPod.

Apple Laptop Size Comparison

ApplesMy Apple G4 Powerbook 12" atop my wife's Apple MacBook 13", atop our friend's Apple G4 Powerbook 15", atop our kitchen counter.  Just because they were there.  Click for larger.

Correction: I had the MacBook at 14" originally.  I was wrong.

The Apple Store in Boston's Back Bay

Apparently, I missed it in the larger media, but my week away let me come back to the Back Bay Sun and the Boston Courant (weeklies) each reporting that Apple had good luck with its second appearance before the Back Bay Architectural Commission.  Apparently, the BBAC was much happier with Apple's new plans.  It looks like we may get the store on Boylston Street in Boston, after all.

Amusingly, the BBAC thinks it's very important and everyone knows what "BBAC" stands for.  Check out this Google.

I [Heart] Apple, Apparently

ApplewordrainbowlogoTrying to clean up my study, I found myself surrounded by equipment and boxes bearing this logo, or a variation of it.  I've owned more Apple Computer stuff than I can list, or recollect.  But just the stuff we have now is plenty.  I think it's: three iPod shuffles, an iPod nano, a MacBook, a G4 Powerbook, a G4 Cube, a G3 iMac, a G5 Tower, an Airport, an Airport Express, and a Powerbook 140.  All but the Cube and the 140 get regular use.

Steve Jobs is King.

Apples Apples Everywhere - Even If I Did Have To Drive Out Of Back Bay

MacbookSo I happened to pop onto the Apple site today, to be greeted with the announcement of their new MacBook, the small version of the Intel-chipped laptops they've been offering in giant size for a few months.  It was a pleasant surprise, because I didn't expect them until later in the year.  After work, my wife and I went to the Apple Store (it's nice to live near so many places to buy Macs - though it would be even nicer if there were one here) and she bought one.

Apple Computer Is Hard to Keep Down

IpodLast summer, I urged shorting Apple Computer stock because it was at an all-time high and I was picking up vibes from what I thought would be a wave of iPod shuffle defects.  In the Boston Herald today there's an anecdotal piece about the possible high rate of defects in the iPod proper.  What happened?

Make It Stop, Part II

Why, John, why?

In the name of all that is beautiful in this world, I beg you to stop.

Make It Stop! My Eyes! My Eyes!

There's a radio station in the nation's capital, DC101, that airs a daily feature called, "Make It stop."  When Make It Stop airs, the DJ plays a horrible song that keeps spinning until a caller identifies it.  He answers the phone, "DC101. Can you make it stop?"

Sometimes, when the song is obscure, the pain is excruciating.  I was reminded of that today when I saw this, the most disturbing image I've seen in days: here.

Just Because You Can, Doesn't Mean You Should

Married actors shouldn't sleep with the hired help.
Super rich guys shouldn't race their insanely fast cars while drunk.
But mostly, mostly, Apples shouldn't run Windows.
Jesus.

Boston-Based Human Aggregator

I added Top10 Sources to the blogroll this week.  Like Adam's UH, it's a human aggregator - RSS with a value-add.  The site may need a little work, but it's a good concept with good content and, yes, I do have a friend who works there.
